When is an energy declaration required?
An energy declaration is required, among other situations, when a building is sold, when premises or homes are let, in new construction, and in certain public buildings that must display their energy class clearly. We help you determine what applies to your property.
How long is an energy declaration valid?
An energy declaration is normally valid for 10 years. A new one may be needed sooner if the building is renovated in a way that affects its energy use.
What does an energy declaration include?
Information about the heating system, energy use, insulation and windows, an energy class (A to G) and proposed measures that can improve efficiency.
Is the energy declaration connected to OVK?
They are separate inspections, but they can sometimes be carried out at the same time. OVK is about air and ventilation, while the energy declaration is about the energy use of the whole building. Read more: What is OVK?
Process and cost
How does an energy declaration work?
A certified energy expert carries out the work in five steps: collecting information about the building, energy use and heating system; an on-site inspection if needed; calculating energy performance and the energy class (A to G); proposing measures that reduce energy use; and registering the declaration with Boverket.
